Hoteliers Disappointed with Reforms to JLC System 28 July 2011 The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) today expressed disappointment that Minister Bruton intends to reform and resuscitate the outdated Joint Labour Committee (JLC) system which is neither appropriate or fit for purpose in a modern competitive economy. He is missing an opportunity to reduce regulatory complexity in the labour market. Mr Tim Fenn, Chief Executive of the IHF, states that Ireland already has robust primary employment legislation in place to protect all employees. He reiterated that statutory minimum wage rates and conditions of employment should apply equally to all sectors of the economy. Mr Fenn states: “By failing to abolish the JLC system, the Government is perpetuating an outdated system that, by its nature, imposes anticompetitive wage demands and excessive red tape on businesses.”
