HOTELIERS WELCOME NEW AER LINGUS REGIONAL FLIGHT FOR CORK AIRPORT

Increased air services will provide welcome boost for local tourism businesses

Hoteliers have welcomed today’s announcement that Aer Lingus Regional is to significantly increase its air services into Cork Airport in 2014 with a new flight to Newcastle and enhanced services on existing routes.

Michael Magner, Chair of the Cork branch of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) said the announcement is a strong vote of confidence in the region’s local tourism product following the Government’s decision to suspend the air travel tax.

He said: “The additional capacity is good news for tourism in Cork and surrounding counties and will help build on the gains made this year during The Gathering. In particular, the new flight to Newcastle will provide a very welcome boost for tourism businesses, including hotels and guesthouses.”

“Today’s announcement builds on a significant number of additional services announced over the last few months and is a testament to the hard work by the team at Cork Airport in attracting new air routes into Cork. ,” says Mr Magner. “We look forward to working with Tourism Ireland and Cork Airport to ensure the potential of these new routes is fully maximised as part our wider marketing approach to energise tourism marketing of the region
