The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) today expressed its serious concern at the further 2% reduction in overseas visitor numbers coming to Ireland during the peak summer season. Furthermore, a six per cent annual reduction of British visitors has been reflected in disappointing occupancy levels in hotels and guesthouses outside Dublin in the last quarter.

IRISH HOTELS FEDERATION SEEKS CLARIFICATION ON STATUTORY SICK PAY SCHEME

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) today urged the Government to clarify its position on the proposed statutory sick-pay scheme. Acknowledging recent comments by Minister Richard Bruton that such a scheme would impact on competitiveness and employment, IHF President Michael Vaughan called on the Government to abandon the proposal and stop sending out mixed messages to businesses at a time when job creation is a national priority.

HOTELIERS WARN AGAINST ANY MOVE TOWARD 
MANDATORY CALORIES-ON-MENUS SCHEME

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) today stated that it would oppose any attempt down the line to introduce mandatory labelling of calories on menus in hotels and guesthouses. Commenting on a series of recommendations by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), Michael Vaughan, President, IHF, welcomed the voluntary nature of the proposed scheme but expressed concerns that it could be transformed into a mandatory system once the introductory phase has been completed.
