Monday, 22nd December 2008 Hoteliers Welcome Resumption of Shannon-Heathrow Route The Irish Hotels Federation toady welcomed Aer Lingus’ decision to resume flights from Heathrow to Shannon. It stated that the move will have a hugely positive impact on the economic outlook for the Shannon/Western region by increasing its attractiveness as a destination for holiday makers and business travellers. Michael Vaughan, Chairman, IHF Shannon Branch, states “We welcome the return of the Shannon–Heathrow route as a critical component in providing tourism and business links into the region. Today’s announcement recognises the clear commercial viability of the route and highlights the need for strong investment in the region’s economic infrastructure.” “Hoteliers and businesses in the West have always been convinced about the viability of the route, which clearly makes sound business sense. We are glad that Aer Lingus staff and management recently negotiated new operational terms that have precipitated the return of the service. We look forward to working closely with the company to promote the service to the benefit of the region and local economy.” ENDS FOR INFORMATION: Siobhan Molloy / Eoin Quinn Tel: 01 6760168
