HOTELIERS WELCOME ACTION PLAN FOR JOBS 2013

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) today welcomed the inclusion of initiatives to attract increased air services and overseas visitors as key tourism policies in the Government’s 2013 Action plan for Jobs. In welcoming strategic initiatives by Minister Varadkar, the IHF stated these policies further strengthened the position of tourism as the engine force of the Government’s economic policy.

Michael Vaughan, President, Irish Hotels Federation (IHF), stated, “Today’s announcement is a welcome vote of confidence for tourism businesses and we look forward to working closely with the Minister and his Department to develop new tourism products/ activities to reinforce the opportunities in marketing Ireland as a competitive tourism destination in existing and future markets”.

Tourism provides an estimated 196,000 jobs, equivalent to 11 per cent of total employment in the country of which more than 50,000 are directly employed by hotels and guesthouses.
