8th July 2014: The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) states that the cancellation of all five Garth Brooks concerts has dealt a severe blow to Irish tourism and will have a direct impact on hundreds of tourism businesses in Dublin and further afield.

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) states that the cancellation of two of the Garth Brooks concerts later this month would have an extremely negative impact on Ireland’s image abroad as a tourist destination, disrupting the travel plans of many tens of thousands of visitors who would now be left disappointed.

REPORT SHOWS SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS MADE IN RESTRUCTURING IRISH HOTEL SECTOR DEBT

Overhanging debt remains an issue for many hotels, particularly outside large urban areas

 

·         Total hotel indebtedness estimated at €5.3bn (down from €6.7bn at the end of 2011)

·         Estimated €1.4bn in debt restructuring still required within the Irish hotel sector

Group demands Government action on Upward Only Rents

A group of almost a dozen of the State’s foremost voices of industry, business and the retail and commercial sector today demanded action by the Government to end upward only rent reviews.
 
The group, representing thousands of retailers, small and medium business, exporters and industry, said the Government could no longer sit on its hands and hide behind legal advice that had the effect of devastating shops and commercial outlets across towns and cities around the country.
