Main Duties

 

  • To meet, greet and help carry guests luggage on arrival and departure in a polite and professional manner.

 

  • To answer the phone at all times in a prompt manner.

 

  • To communicate with Reception at all times.

 

  • Check function sheet on a daily basis and set up any meeting rooms etc as required.

 

  • To provide the highest standard of service in Room Service / Lobby Service Department

 

  • To ensure prompt service

 

  • To exhibit a good knowledge of Room Service, Breakfast and Menu Items

 

  • Room service trays and lobby trays to be kept at the highest standard of cleanliness at all times

 

  • To be responsible for the route cleaning of public areas and toilets within the hotel e.g. Reception, Porch area, Stairways

 

·         To ensure that the Porters Lodge is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion at all times, is fully stocked with cleaning utensils and agents. 

 

  • Local Knowledge of the town history and hotel history.

 

  • The up-keep and implementation of standards with the department in accordance with quality system agreed

 

  • Carry out any special cleaning of specific task (Job of the Day) as well as normal service required in specified length of time

 

  • To operate plant & machinery with due care and attention ensuring adherence to health & safety procedures

 

  • Reporting of any faulty electrical equipment

 

 

  • To carry out the hotels customer care policies at all times, to communicate hotel services to guests

 

  • To ensure that you present to work wearing the relevant uniform and name badge and to the highest possible standards of personal hygiene and appearance

 

  • To ensure that all reasonable care is taken for the health and safety of yourself, other employees, guests and any other persons on the premises

 

  • To maintain a high standard of hygiene during work procedure by using correct chemicals and equipment provided

 

  • To ensure that house policies regarding lost property are complied with at all times

 

  • To observe all safety rules and procedures

 

  • To report and, where possible, take action on incidents of accidents, fire loss or damage

 

·         To ensure safe and correct use of all equipment within training limitations and legal constraints.

 

  • To attend any meetings and training sessions when required to by the Head Porter or Management.

 

  • To encourage an environment which promotes employee morale and encourages the Team to have pride and commitment in their area of work.

 

  • To maintain a high standard of hygiene during week procedure by using correct chemicals and equipment provided.

 

  • To help in other areas of service, i.e. Room Service, Bar Lunch, Functions & Night shfits

 

  • To maintain at all times a good working relationship with your fellow workers and Management.

 

  • To be flexible with regard to working hours in order to handle any unexpected requirements.

 

 

HYGIENE

 

  • To practice high standards of personal hygiene at all times in terms of grooming and wearing of proper attire.

 

  • To maintain the required standards of operational hygiene within all areas of the Porterage department throughout the operation.

 

  • To be aware of the Statutory Hygiene regulations and to ensure that all staff strictly conform to the requirements.

 

SAFETY AND SECURITY

 

  • To ensure that adequate safety measures are in operation within the Food & Beverage department and to act pro-actively to any change of directive by health and safety authority. To carry out monthly hazard audits and to submit findings to the Healthy and Safety Representative.

 

  • To be fully conversant with the Health and Safety at Work Act and to ensure that staff under your direct control are fully aware of their responsibilities under the law.

 

  • To ensure the security of stocks at all times.

 

  • To ensure that all accident report forms are filled out diligently, presented in a timely manner to the Deputy General Manager so they can be passed on to our risk assessors.

 

LOYALTY & DEPENDABILITY

 

  • To be flexible with regard to working hours in order to handle any unexpected requirements.

 

  • Accept responsibility for all areas under your supervision, giving credit to the team for their success, and accept responsibility for mistakes or failures within these areas.

 

  • To display total loyalty to the Management of Whites of Wexford in day-to-day performance of your role.

 

RECRUITMENT & TRAINING

 

  • To ensure that the Porterage dept. conform with the hotel policy with regard to providing induction training for new staff, continually assessing the training needs and formulating and providing relevant training responses when necessary.

 

  • To be responsible for the training and development of staff in the area of Porters policies and procedures.

 

  • To train all Porterage Staff in product knowledge, identifying training needs and implementing training policy.

 

  • To compile a monthly training plan for discussion and implementation with our Human Resource Manager.

 

  • To carry out staff appraisals at regular periods in accordance with company policies.

 

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

 

  • To create an environment which promotes employee morale and encourages the Team to have pride and commitment in their area of work.

 

  • To maintain a harmonious work relationship with both Management and staff.

 

  • To communicate positive attitudes, sincere interest and responsiveness to others needs and to interact in a positive way with management, staff and suppliers alike.

ADHERENCE TO POLICY

 

  • To have a complete understanding of the house policies relating to confidentiality, personnel matters, catering, fire, hygiene, health and safety, security and energy conservation and to comply with these policies at all times.

 

  • To ensure that these policies are communicated to staff under your direct control and they are rigidly enforced.

 

  • To ensure that the Porterage dept. fully complies with all relevant licensing laws and regulations ensuring that all Equality Legislation is followed and that all staff are fully aware of their obligations.

 

Customer Care

 

·         To ensure that all your staff are fully aware of the Hotels Philosophy and your departmental service promise.

 

·         To ensure that all the required  documentation is completed every month as required, this includes: a monthly action plan, service breakdown log, service improvement logs and departmental staff suggestions. 

 

·         To ensure that the Porterage staff do all they can to ensure that Customers’ needs are exceeded at all times and that nothing is too much trouble.

 

·         To ensure the Porterage and the Hotel’s  Policies are met and exceeded at all times.

 

·         Attend team meetings as required with Best Practice and ensure any duties to completed are done.
